Oldsmar Accident Insurance, Explained Plainly

A fall or a broken wrist can mean a deductible to pay and time off work. Accident insurance pays you a fixed cash amount when you have a covered injury. We line up plans from several carriers and show you what each one pays and for what.

What accident insurance does, and what it doesn't

Accident insurance is a supplemental plan. When you have a covered injury, like a fracture, a dislocation, a deep cut that needs stitches or an ambulance ride, the carrier pays a fixed benefit listed in the policy. The money goes to you, not the hospital, so you decide where it goes: your deductible, a copay, groceries or the rent while you're off your feet.

It is not health insurance, and it does not replace a major medical plan. We say that plainly on every call because the safest plan is one you fully understand before you buy it. Accident coverage works best sitting next to a solid health plan, filling the gap a high deductible leaves behind.

If you don't have health coverage yet, we usually start with individual health insurance or ACA Marketplace plans and add accident coverage only if it still makes sense.

How we help you choose accident coverage

  1. 01

Plans compared next to each other

We gather accident plans from several carriers and put premiums, benefit amounts and exclusions in one view. You will not have to wonder which brochure skipped the details.

  2. 02

The benefit schedule in plain terms

Each accident plan lists what it pays for each kind of injury. We go through that list with you item by item, so you know the payout for a fracture or a night in the hospital.

  3. 03

A straight comparison with your health plan

We review your current deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. If an accident plan would mostly repeat coverage you already have, we say so.

  4. 04

    Off-the-job or round-the-clock coverage

Some plans pay only for injuries away from work, and others also cover injuries on the job. We explain which suits your line of work and whether workers' comp already protects you while you are working.

  5. 05

    Coverage for your family

Children who play sports get injured. We show how adding a spouse or kids affects the premium and how it works with your family health insurance.

  6. 06

    A free consultation

Having us look costs you nothing, since the company you pick pays us instead of you.

Signs accident coverage may be worth a look

  • Your deductible is high

If one injury would mean paying several thousand dollars before your health plan kicks in, a cash benefit can soften that hit.

  • Your kids play sports

Soccer, football, skateboarding and cheer all come with sprains and broken bones. A plan that covers children can help with the visits that follow.

  • You stay active outdoors

Boating, cycling and weekend projects around the Tampa Bay area keep you moving and also raise the odds of a fall or a cut. Coverage can pay out when that happens.

  • Missing work would strain your budget

If you're self-employed or have little paid leave, the cash benefit can help cover regular bills while you recover.

  • You aren't sure what your current plan covers

That's a good reason to call on its own. We'll review it with you before suggesting anything new.

We point out exclusions, waiting periods and limits, so nothing surprises you later. You can ask as many questions as you like and take time to decide.

  4. 4

Enrollment, if you choose a plan

We help you complete the application correctly and confirm when coverage starts. If you ever need to file a claim, call us and we'll explain what the carrier will need.

What affects your accident plan premium

Accident plans tend to be one of the lower-cost supplemental choices, though premiums still differ quite a bit. The main drivers are how much a plan pays out and who is on it. We show how each option changes the price so you can settle on a level you are comfortable with.

How much the plan pays
Plans with bigger payouts per injury, or a longer list of covered injuries, have higher monthly premiums.
People on the plan
Covering only yourself is cheaper than adding a spouse or kids.
On-the-job and off-the-job coverage
Plans that pay for injuries at work and away from it usually cost more than plans that cover only time off the job.
The work you do
Certain carriers set rates by occupation, because hands-on jobs carry a higher chance of injury than office jobs.
Optional benefits
Add-ons like hospital admission or follow-up care benefits raise the premium. We help you sort out which are worth paying for.

Common questions about accident coverage

Could an accident plan take the place of health insurance?

No. It pays fixed amounts for covered injuries but leaves out illness, routine care and most of what a major medical plan pays for. It works as a backup to your health plan, not a replacement. If you need main coverage, we can start there.

Who receives the payment after a claim?

With most accident plans, you do. Spend it on medical bills, your deductible or day-to-day costs. The policy lists the amount for each covered injury.

Are injuries from before I signed up covered?

No. Accident plans pay for injuries that happen once your coverage begins. Some also have a brief waiting period on certain benefits, and we note those as we compare plans.

Do I have to wait for open enrollment to add accident coverage?

Unlike most health plans, many accident plans can be purchased outside open enrollment. It varies by carrier, so we check what is available to you when you call.

Do you charge for a consultation?

No. The consultation is free, and the carrier you pick pays us instead of you. If an accident plan does not fit your situation, we will tell you.
